Cygnet Pesticide Container Recycling Program

Cygnet Enterprises is Dedicated to the Environment.

In cooperation with The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program, the Michigan Agri-Business Associationthe Ag Container Recycling Council and the Pennsylvania Department of Argriculture Cygnet has recycled more than 225,000 lbs. (equals over 150,000 containers) of used pesticide containers in the last 5 years alone!

We at Cygnet strongly feel the recycling of pesticide containers are not only essential, but the right thing to do for the pesticide application industry. Moreover, it assists to absorb the negative stigma often associated with pesticide applications, saves money and helps the environment as a whole. Cygnet supports this struggle by providing a local area in which applicators can drop-off empty herbicide containers. Cygnet also offers the option of picking up containers while out delivering product to locations. This saves the applicator disposal fees, storage space, time, and fuel for transport. Please note, all containers must be triple rinsed, and labels and caps removed.

Cygnet has been promoting pesticide container recycling since 1994 and with each passing year the number of containers received has increased. The more containers we acquire, the less likely the chances of them overflowing in landfills. Containers will be checked in upon delivery as this will ensure the number of containers accumulated and/or if they’ve been properly rinsed.

Empty containers are picked up from Cygnet by Container Services Network (CSN) annually. To keep this process running smoothly, Cygnet provides CSN with help loading all bagged containers into a tractor-trailer. The resulting weight of the product is approximately the equivalent of 5-10 well equipped midsize sedans. That is an enormous amount of plastic! Where would you rather see that amount of plastic go; into your local landfill, or made into a new pallet, computer, deck, or even a new car?

Recycled plastic is actually used to make containers, which is the packaging we use for the products that we depend on for our business. Through recycling containers and endorsing the use of recycled plastics, we can do our part in assisting the environment as well as keeping production costs down on the products we use every day. However, it will take everyone working together to achieve this goal.
